A Season of Resilience and Breakout Performances
The Miami Herald’s Broward County baseball awards have crowned University of Florida‑bound pitcher Brady Snow as the 4A‑1A Pitcher of the Year and University of Miami‑committed hitter Jon Mora as the Player of the Year, highlighting a standout crop of talent in the classification.
Snow’s path to the honor was anything but straightforward; a month‑long injury forced him to miss the season’s opening stretch, yet he returned to dominate with a 0.79 earned‑run average and 85 strikeouts across 53 ⅓ innings.
His performance helped the Heritage Hawks rally to a 15‑1 stretch that propelled them to the Class 4A state final four, a run that was only halted by inclement weather in the semifinal.
Meanwhile, Mora, a senior starter since his freshman year at Somerset Academy, posted a .521 batting average, smacked five home runs, added seven triples, ten doubles and drove in 32 runs, guiding the Spartans to their first ever Class 4A regional final appearance.
The two teams met in the regional finals, where Heritage swept Somerset in a two‑game series, underscoring the competitive balance within the county and setting the stage for future matchups.
Both athletes will now transition to the SEC, with Snow heading to Gainesville and Mora to Coral Gables, carrying the expectations of their respective programs and the hopes of a baseball‑rich region.
The accolades reflect more than individual brilliance; they signal a deep well of coaching, community support, and the growing prominence of South Florida baseball on the national stage.
