A Coach's Championship Journey
Steve Pinchback, an assistant girls basketball coach at United South, recently opened up about the four state championships he helped secure as an assistant at DeSoto High School, a run that reshaped his coaching philosophy and instilled a relentless work ethic.
During his tenure at DeSoto, Pinchback was part of teams that captured two UIL state championship rings in girls basketball, added a title in boys track, and contributed to a football championship, culminating in the 2009 Class 5A girls basketball crown and the 2016 Class 6A championship, moments that placed him among a select group of coaches who have tasted the pinnacle of high school sport.
Those victories taught him that commitment and perseverance are not just slogans but daily practices, lessons he now carries into his new role where he hopes to embed that championship mindset into the players he mentors in Laredo.
From DeSoto to Laredo
Having previously been part of a DeSoto squad that fell in the 2014 state semifinals, Pinchback knows that setbacks can lay the groundwork for future triumphs, a perspective he shares with his United South colleagues as they aim to build on the foundation he helped establish.
