A Fresh Start in Sweden
Sebastian Aho, a 30‑year‑old defenseman, has officially joined Växjö Lakers HC in the Swedish Hockey League, bringing his experience and defensive skill to a team eager to capture its first SHL championship since the 2022‑23 season.
Aho’s professional journey began when he was drafted by the New York Islanders in the fifth round of the 2017 NHL Draft. Over three seasons in the NHL he appeared in 190 games, contributing 50 points while establishing himself as a reliable blueliner.
The past two years saw him competing in the AHL with the Wilkes‑Barre/Scranton Penguins, where he recorded 14 points in each campaign, showcasing a steady offensive output despite a defensive focus.
Prior to his North American chapter, Aho spent five seasons with Skelleftea AIK, developing his game in the SHL and gaining a deep familiarity with the league’s pace and physicality.
Now back in Sweden, Aho hopes his blend of NHL experience and SHL familiarity will help Växjö Lakers HC mount a serious title challenge, aiming to lift the trophy for the first time since 2022‑23.
