Dan Bailey, a 2012 graduate of Queens University of Charlotte, has been named Associate Head Coach, a promotion that reflects his two‑year tenure as an assistant under head coach Grant Leonard and his deep involvement in the program’s recent successes.
A Strategic Mind Shapes Queens' Ascendancy
During his time on Leonard’s staff, Bailey helped steer the Royals to consecutive 20‑win seasons and capture the ASUN Tournament championship, serving as the offensive coordinator during the title run.
The team’s offense ranked 18th nationally in points per game at 84.5, while its 16.0 assists per game placed it 62nd, and the Royals boasted the highest scoring average in the ASUN and stood 79th in offensive efficiency.
Bailey’s strategic imprint is evident in the squad’s 59 % shooting from two‑point range, a figure that placed the club 14th in the country, and in a defensive scheme that ranked fifth in the conference for scoring defense and third for limiting opponent three‑point shooting.
Beyond the numbers, Bailey contributed to the development of ASUN Newcomer of the Year Deyton Albury and former standout AJ McKee, both of whom earned All‑Conference honors under his guidance.
His playing career took him across continents, from Romania and Finland to Germany, Saudi Arabia and Japan, before he turned to coaching, launching the Gamechangers Basketball Camp in Columbia, South Carolina, in 2013 and later serving as a tour coach and skill‑development instructor for AAU programs in Charlotte.
With a foundation built on game strategy and basketball analytics, Bailey continues to shape the Royals’ identity, a narrative that resonates with the university’s broader athletic ambitions.
