A Boost for the Sooners
Oklahoma's 2027 recruiting class received a significant lift this week as wide receiver Malahn Green and interior lineman Jaxon Lawler both announced their commitments to the University of Oklahoma.
Green, a standout prospect from St. Louis, chose the Sooners just five days after receiving an offer during the program's summer camp, a timeline that underscored the rapid progress of his recruitment.
The 6‑foot‑3 receiver brings a blend of speed and route precision that has already attracted attention from multiple programs, including Nebraska, though he remains unranked by Rivals at this stage.
Lawler, a 6‑foot‑4, 265‑pound interior lineman from Texas, highlighted his decision by citing the coaching staff's vision and the chance to compete early on the line of scrimmage.
His recruiting journey included visits to Oklahoma State, TCU, Texas Tech and Wake Forest, giving him a broad perspective before he settled on Norman.
Rivals currently lists Lawler as the No. 152 player in Texas, a ranking that reflects both his potential and the competitive nature of the state's talent pool.
A Class on the Rise
The two new commitments bring Oklahoma's total pledges to 24 for the 2027 cycle, a number that places the Sooners among the nation's most active recruiters and suggests a sustained momentum under the current staff.
Coaches have emphasized that adding versatile playmakers like Green and a powerful presence like Lawler will allow the team to diversify its offensive schemes and bolster its defensive front in the years to come.
Both players expressed excitement about joining a program with a rich history and a fan base that demands excellence, indicating that the Sooners' appeal remains strong even as they navigate a shifting landscape of college athletics.
