A New Chapter for JSU Baseball
Jacksonville State University has named Travis Creel as its newest head coach for the baseball program, tapping a familiar face with deep roots in the region’s college baseball scene.
Creel arrives after a seven‑year stint at the University of Southern Mississippi, where he wore multiple hats including recruiting coordinator, hitting coach and infield coach, and helped guide the Golden Eagles to a College World Series appearance in 2009.
Before his coaching career, Creel was a standout player at USM, earning team captain honors twice and contributing to the 2009 national tournament run that cemented his connection to the sport’s highest stage.
His professional journey also includes stints at Louisiana Tech University and Jones College, where he refined his approach to player development and strategic planning.
Creel will become the sixth individual to hold the program’s top coaching post, a milestone that underscores both the tradition of the team and the university’s confidence in his leadership.
The administration believes his blend of playing experience, coaching acumen and regional ties will revitalize the roster, enhance recruiting pipelines and reinforce the competitive spirit of Jacksonville State baseball.
