Celebrating Soccer Across Generations
The Central Library in Spokane will transform its main hall into a vibrant World Cup arena this weekend, inviting residents of all ages to share in the excitement of soccer.
Organizers have lined up a lineup of activities that blend play with community building, from mascot-themed crafts to interactive games projected on a large screen.
Children can get hands-on with crafts featuring Maple the Moose, Zayu the Jaguar and Clutch the Bald Eagle, while a finger-puppet tournament lets participants turn their own digits into miniature players competing in a tiny tournament.
The 90+ Project, a local nonprofit dedicated to making soccer accessible, will run drills using foam balls, emphasizing a growth mindset, integrity and inclusion for every participant.
Spokane Velocity team members will be on hand for meet-and-greet sessions, signing autographs and sharing tips, and attendees can enter a raffle for a pair of tickets to an upcoming Velocity match.
Beyond the fun, the event underscores a broader goal: to bring together neighbors from across the city, celebrate diverse cultures and strengthen the bonds that sport can forge.
