A New Era for Mount Vernon Football
Ed Honabarger, a veteran coach with a distinguished record at Danville and Loudonville, has officially joined the Mount Vernon football staff, bringing a blend of experience and enthusiasm that program leaders say could reshape the team's trajectory.
Honabarger, who compiled a 132‑60 record at Danville and captured multiple regional championships, will focus on coaching quarterbacks, emphasizing mechanics, fundamentals and leadership. He believes that building strong relationships and making the sport enjoyable are essential to retaining players and fostering a year‑round commitment.
Under head coach Mark Weber, who is setting clear boundaries and priorities to retain quality coaches and develop the next generation of leaders, the team aims to build on last season’s historic postseason qualification — the first in 32 years. Honabarger’s philosophy aligns with this vision, as he stresses that a fun, engaged environment is the foundation for sustained success.
