A Berlin-based musician turned Germany’s opening World Cup match into a live musical spectacle at the historic Church of the Twelve Apostles in Schöneberg, swapping TV commentary for an improvised organ and keyboard performance.
A Sonic Match
Instead of the usual broadcast voice, the artist filled the sanctuary with chords that rose and fell in step with the game’s rhythm, using a custom‑built keyboard to trigger real‑time musical responses to attacks, fouls and goals.
Spectators followed the match on a large screen while the musician’s sound palette shifted to reflect each pivotal moment, turning the 7‑1 victory into a crescendo of organ swells and synth accents.
Beyond the Screen
The event, dubbed a “Football Concert,” merges sport and performance art, offering a cinematic experience that transforms passive watching into active listening. Organizers describe it as a donation‑based gathering that lets fans feel the tournament through sound.
Plans are already in place for similar concerts for each of Germany’s remaining World Cup fixtures, promising a series of unique auditory experiences that will keep the blend of sport and music alive throughout the competition.
