Jacksonville State University announced this week that Travis Creel will assume the role of head coach for its baseball program, marking the start of a new era for the Gamecocks.
A Coach With Deep Roots
Creel arrives after seven successful seasons at the University of Southern Mississippi, where he honed his craft as a recruiting coordinator, hitting coach and infield coach. His playing days at USM included a stint on the 2009 College World Series team and two captaincies, experiences that have shaped his leadership style.
Before his tenure at USM, Creel also contributed to Louisiana Tech and Jones College, building a diverse coaching résumé that blends strategic recruiting with on‑field development.
In his introductory remarks, Creel expressed both honor and gratitude, stating his eagerness to lead the Gamecocks and become an integral part of the Jax State community. He emphasized the program’s tradition and his commitment to competing at the highest level.
The appointment makes Creel the sixth head coach in Jacksonville State baseball history, a milestone that underscores the university’s ambition to sustain momentum in a competitive landscape.
Fans and alumni alike are already rallying around the hire, anticipating that Creel’s blend of regional familiarity and proven coaching acumen will translate into stronger recruiting classes and improved performance on the diamond.
