The Alabama Sports Writers Association gathered last week to celebrate the state's most promising high school athletes, handing out awards that highlight exceptional performance on the diamond and the softball field.
Will Adams Makes History
Will Adams became the first Hoover Bucs player to capture the state's top baseball honor, earning the Gatorade Alabama Player of the Year award after a season that saw him bat .489 with 13 home runs, 52 RBIs and 37 runs scored. On the mound he posted a 4‑2 record, a 2.33 ERA and 55 strikeouts in 36 innings.
Cory Goguts Repeats as Miss Softball
Cory Goguts helped Hewitt‑Trussville claim the Class 7A softball championship and was named the state's Gatorade Player of the Year for the second straight year. She batted .618, posted a 2.140 OPS, launched 29 homers and drove in 91 runs, cementing her place among the elite.
Both athletes were also selected to the Super All‑State team, a testament to their all‑around impact and the depth of talent across Alabama high school sports.
The recognition underscores the role of institutions such as the Alabama Sports Writers Association and the universities of LSU and Ole Miss in fostering statewide athletic excellence, while the achievements of these young stars continue to inspire future generations.
