Muskingum Valley League Football Showcase Draws Hundreds of Athletes and Coaches

High school standouts like Carter Smith and Tyce Whiteman impress college recruiters at Muskingum University event

The Muskingum Valley League football college showcase has become a cornerstone of the high school season, drawing more than a hundred eager athletes and nearly forty college coaches to Muskingum University each spring.

Now in its third year, the event has evolved from a modest gathering into a regional hub where prospects from the classes of 2026 and 2027 can showcase their abilities in front of recruiters from Division I, II and III programs.

Spotlight on Standout Players

Among the standout performers were West Muskingum’s versatile receiver and linebacker Carter Smith and Sheridan’s dual‑threat quarterback Tyce Whiteman, both of whom attracted considerable attention from scouting staff and coaches alike.

Sheridan alumnus Shay Taylor, a former player turned scout for Division I Charlotte, was on hand to evaluate talent for his alma mater, adding a personal touch to the recruitment process.

Coaching Collaboration

New Lexington head coach Kevin Board and West Muskingum head coach Nate Brownrigg jointly organized the showcase, coordinating logistics and ensuring that each participant received ample exposure to college programs.

The collaborative effort underscores the league’s commitment to fostering competitive opportunities and supporting the athletic ambitions of its members.

With busy summers ahead, Smith and Whiteman are poised to capitalize on the momentum, aiming to secure spots at the next level of collegiate football.

The showcase not only highlights the top talent of the Muskingum Valley League but also sets the stage for promising athletic futures, reinforcing the region’s reputation as a fertile ground for football development.
