The Saint Francis University Athletics Hall of Fame will welcome Joe Schoen into its Class of 2026, a tribute that acknowledges more than just statistical achievements on the hardwood. University officials emphasized that the induction celebrates the values Schoen embodied as a student‑athlete, a professional, a husband, and a father.
Schoen arrived on campus from North Catholic High School in Pennsylvania, where he dominated the senior circuit with averages of 22.6 points and 21 rebounds per game. His collegiate tenure at Saint Francis cemented his reputation as one of the Northeast’s premier rebounders, culminating in a career that placed him among the program’s all‑time leaders with 1,076 points and 942 rebounds.
The 1981 NBA Draft saw the Detroit Pistons select Schoen with the 163rd overall pick, a moment that marked the transition from college stardom to professional competition. Though his stint in the league was brief, he continued to showcase his talents overseas, competing in Germany, Chile, and various United States circuits before retiring from playing.
After hanging up his jersey, Schoen pursued academic advancement, earning a master’s degree from La Salle University. He then built a distinguished career in accounting, a path that culminated in a December 2025 retirement after years of professional success. His post‑basketball journey illustrates a seamless blend of analytical rigor and community involvement.
Schoen’s personal life reflects the same dedication he displayed on the court. He shares his life with his wife, Patti, and they are parents to three daughters: Lexi, Georgia, and Lila.
