An 18‑year‑old man from Monroe County is now facing felonious assault and fleeing‑police charges after a chaotic chain of events that unfolded on June 14. The incident began with a family disturbance call in the Orchards Mobile Home Community, where the suspect’s parents reported alarming statements and a vehicle departure.
Escalation on the road
A second 911 call described the suspect’s vehicle ramming another car repeatedly on southbound I‑75, prompting a high‑speed chase that stretched across Grafton Road through Carleton. Deputies later located the vehicle near North Telegraph Road and Sigler Road, but the pursuit was called off for public safety concerns.
An officer with the South Rockwood Police Department encountered the suspect as he entered the Orchards Mobile Home Community. The youth exited his car armed with a baseball bat, struck the patrol vehicle and then advanced threateningly toward a Monroe County deputy.
Confrontation and arrest
The deputy responded with a taser, but the suspect continued to fight, injuring the officer before being taken into custody and transported to jail to await charges. The entire sequence left multiple injuries and prompted a review of the department’s pursuit policies.
