River City Classic Set to Make History
The University of Evansville and the University of Southern Indiana have joined forces to launch the River City Classic, a men’s basketball game that will debut on Saturday, November 7 at the Ford Center in Evansville, Indiana. This contest represents the first regular‑season Division I meeting between the two schools’ programs, marking a milestone for local basketball.
The game is designed to bring the community together, highlighting the region’s deep‑rooted passion for the sport. Organizers, including the Evansville Regional Sports Commission and Old National Bank, hope the event will showcase the tradition and excitement of Evansville basketball while providing a shared experience for fans.
Tickets will be made available to the public starting July 15 through the University of Evansville ticket office, giving supporters the chance to secure seats for what is expected to be an electric atmosphere.
Community Impact
University of Evansville Head Coach David Ragland said he is excited about the matchup, noting that the game will have a positive impact on the community and provide a platform for local talent. Dr. Kenneth "Ziggy" Siegfried, Director of Athletics at UE, added that the collaboration reflects a broader effort to strengthen regional sports ties.
The River City Classic is part of a one‑year agreement for the 2026‑27 season, with both institutions open to exploring future opportunities, including a potential women’s basketball home‑and‑home series that could be announced later.
