Slippery Rock University will host a girls' flag football skill development camp on July 16, targeting high school athletes who will be entering grades eight through twelve. The evening session is scheduled from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Mihalik‑Thompson Stadium, where registration will begin at 5 p.m.
Camp Details and Registration
Participants will pay a $75 fee that includes a commemorative t‑shirt, snacks and instruction designed to sharpen technique, reinforce fundamentals and provide competitive play experience. The curriculum was developed in collaboration with the university’s head women’s flag football coach, Lisa Horton, and members of the Pittsburgh Passion Women’s Flag Football Pro Team.
Leadership and Vision
Horton, who was named the inaugural head coach of the women’s flag football program at Slippery Rock, will guide campers through drills and a final scrimmage that pits participants against one another in a controlled competitive setting. She is slated to begin her full‑time role on July 1, 2026, following a year dedicated to recruiting and establishing the program’s foundation.
The initiative reflects the university’s broader commitment to expanding opportunities for female athletes, with official competition for the varsity team slated to commence in the 2027‑28 academic year. Prospective campers are encouraged to register before the July 15 deadline to secure their spot.
