A Season Defined by Unity
Rye Varsity Baseball concluded the 2026 campaign with a 19‑7 record, clinching first place in their league and earning the top seed for the sectional tournament. The team’s achievement marks a historic milestone: a second consecutive Section 1 championship, the program’s first at the AA level, and the first back‑to‑back titles in school history.
Coach Michael Bruno made it clear that the accolade of Most Valuable Player would not be bestowed upon any single individual. Instead, he praised the collective effort of players, coaches, and support staff that made the season possible.
Key contributors such as Nolan Hutson, who stole 19 bases and set the table throughout the year, and Jamie Morris, whose walk‑off home run against Yorktown punctuated the semifinals, exemplified the team’s depth. Jackson Pineault’s signature go‑ahead double in the championship elimination game, coupled with Luke Ontaneda’s playoff homer off a Division 1 commit, highlighted clutch performances.
Additional offensive firepower came from Lucas London and Michael Talbott, while Miles Silber, Harry Ellis and Ben Fineberg provided consistent production. On the mound, Talbott, London, Clayton McCarthy and Michael Bubeck each logged at least four wins with ERAs under 3.00, anchoring a pitching staff that kept opponents at bay.
The championship effort also reflects the program’s growing footprint in the community. MyRye.com, the team’s official media partner, continues to spotlight the athletes’ journeys and the town’s baseball heritage.
Looking ahead, the team’s blend of experience and emerging talent positions them as a formidable contender in the upcoming sectional play. Coach Bruno remains focused on maintaining the collaborative spirit that defined the season, hoping to translate this momentum into further success on the diamond.
