UNM Lobos Add Four New Verbal Commitments to 2027 Football Class

Recruits highlight coaching staff, environment, and sense of belonging in decisions to join the Lobos

The University of New Mexico's Lobos football program announced a flurry of verbal commitments on Wednesday, adding four new players to its 2027 recruiting class. The additions bring the total number of pledged athletes to eight, with five slated for defensive positions and three for offensive roles.

Arizona Lineman Zade Brown Commits

Among the newcomers, Arizona native Zade Brown, a 6‑foot‑4, 250‑pound lineman from Valley Vista High School, committed on June 8. Brown highlighted the influence of head coach Jason Eck and offensive line coach Cody Booth, saying their vision played a decisive role in his decision to join the Lobos.

California tight end Collin Benninger, standing 6‑foot‑5 and weighing 220 pounds, pledged to UNM on June 13. He pointed to the university’s offensive scheme as a key factor, noting that the development and utilization of tight ends were central to his choice.

Linebacker Dailon (DJ) Clanton from Mater Dei High School in Santa Ana, California, announced his commitment on June 9. Clanton said he considered offers from seven other programs, including Arizona State, Utah, San Diego State, Oregon State and UNLV, before deciding on New Mexico.

Defensive end Tighe Williams from Creekside High School in Fairburn, Georgia, committed on May 30. Ranked 192nd among defensive ends nationally and 340th overall in Georgia by Profile Recruiting, Williams joins a growing defensive line corps.

Coach Jason Eck and his staff have emphasized a supportive environment and a sense of belonging as cornerstones of the program’s recruiting narrative. The recent commitments reflect the staff’s ability to connect with prospects who value both athletic development and community.
