Local Coach Guides Future Stars

Pete Cordelli Jr., a former assistant coach with a track record in player development, is set to host a recruiting seminar in Lackawanna County aimed at parents, coaches and athletes.

The event will take place in Brennan Hall, Pearn Auditorium, Room 228 at the University of Scranton, running from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. A modest $10 fee covers attendance, and interested participants can reach out to Ryan Runco at runcory@lackawannacounty.org or 570-335-6675 for details.

Cordelli’s program blends academic evaluation with athletic improvement, drawing on his book “Making the Grade” and his coaching philosophy that emphasizes both classroom performance and on‑field growth.

In addition to the seminar, he will run the Champions Quarterback Camp for students in grades nine through twelve, offering four sessions each day that focus on quarterback mechanics and decision‑making.

The seminar coincides with a wave of college interest in three local seniors. Brayden Rose, a rising senior at Riverside, has attracted multiple scholarship offers after posting 50 tackles, seven for loss, three sacks, three interceptions and three forced fumbles while also excelling at quarterback.

Weston Yannone and Jake Costanzo, both rising seniors at Dunmore, have each received NCAA Division I scholarship offers. Yannone’s list includes the University of Maine and Army, while Costanzo’s sole offer so far is from Army.

Local coaches and parents view Cordelli’s initiative as a valuable resource, providing a structured pathway through the often confusing recruiting landscape while reinforcing the importance of academic standing.

The combination of hands‑on training, academic guidance and direct connections to college programs underscores a growing effort to support talented athletes in Northeast Pennsylvania.
