Crosby Heads to Switzerland for World Hockey Championships
Sidney Crosby, captain of the Pittsburgh Penguins, has been selected to represent Canada at the upcoming men’s world hockey championships in Switzerland. It will mark his fourth career appearance at the tournament and his second consecutive year on the roster.
Crosby’s availability comes after the Penguins were eliminated from the NHL playoffs, allowing the veteran forward to join the Canadian squad. He arrives fresh off a silver‑medal performance at the recent Milan Cortina Games, where he again wore the maple leaf.
A member of the International Ice Hockey Federation’s elite Triple Gold club, Crosby brings a championship pedigree that includes an Olympic gold, two world titles and three Stanley Cups. He famously scored the overtime winner in the 2010 Vancouver final and led Canada to a 2015 world‑championship gold.
The tournament, which spans 17 days and features 16 nations, opens with Canada facing Sweden on Friday. Joining Crosby on the Canadian roster are forwards Mathew Barzal, who will sit out as a precaution due to injury, and newcomers Porter Martone and Dawson Mercer, who have been added to the lineup.
