A night of records in downtown Toronto
The 2026 CHL Awards ceremony unfolded in the heart of downtown Toronto on June 15, bringing together the league’s brightest talents and the officials who shape the sport. The event, held at a packed downtown venue, highlighted a historic milestone that will linger in hockey lore.
Markus Ruck, a 19‑year‑old forward from Osoyoos, British Columbia, was crowned the league’s top scorer for the 2025‑26 season. His 108 points came from 21 goals and 87 assists in 72 games with the Medicine Hat Tigers of the Western Hockey League. Ruck’s consistency was underscored by the fact that he was held off the scoresheet only 12 times all season and posted at least three points on 11 occasions.
The achievement did not come in isolation. His identical twin, Liam Ruck, finished a close second with 104 points, also amassed with the Tigers. The brothers became the first siblings ever to occupy the top two positions in CHL scoring, a feat that underscores both their individual brilliance and the unique dynamic of their partnership on the ice.
Awards, accolades and the road ahead
The CHL Top Scorer Award, first presented in 1994, was determined by a combination of statistical performance and the winners of the league’s other major honors. Across the 30 finalist slots for the ten CHL awards, 19 different clubs were represented, reflecting the breadth of talent throughout the Canadian Hockey League’s three member circuits: the Western Hockey League, the Ontario Hockey League and the Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League.
Beyond the trophy, Markus Ruck’s performance has positioned him as a top prospect for the 2026 NHL Draft. Scouts have noted his playmaking ability, his capacity to generate points in clutch moments and his durability over a full season. As the draft approaches, analysts expect his stock to rise, especially given the historic narrative surrounding the Ruck twins.
The ceremony also recognized other standout performances, including finalists such as Linden Vey, Nikita Klepov and Maxim Massé, who each contributed to a competitive field of award contenders. Their presence highlighted the depth of talent across the league and the growing international interest in the CHL’s developmental pathways.
