New Additions to the Colonials
George Washington University announced that Andrew Phillips and Deng Manyang have formally committed to the program for the 2026‑27 men’s basketball season. Their arrivals come as Head Coach Chris Caputo continues to rebuild a roster that lost several key contributors from the previous year.
Phillips arrives after a season in which he averaged 13.9 points per game for Lafayette College and hit a season‑high 23 points against American University. A career 35 percent shooter from three‑point range, he brings a reliable scoring threat and veteran poise to the Colonials’ backcourt.
Manyang, a 6‑9 forward originally from Australia, spent the current campaign with the Central Districts Lions, where he is averaging 18.2 points per game. He is also the first true freshman added by Caputo this offseason, giving the team a dynamic inside presence and a fresh source of energy.
A Roster in Transition
Both players will join a squad that includes returning veterans such as Sam Kayser and a group of emerging talent. The coaching staff has emphasized a faster pace and greater defensive intensity, hoping the new additions can help the team contend in the Atlantic 10 conference.
The commitments underscore GW’s strategy of blending domestic talent with international experience. By securing players with proven college production and a strong work ethic, the program aims to restore competitiveness and attract further recruits in the coming recruiting cycles.
