Olympic gold‑medalist Megan Keller, a native of Metro Detroit, has joined forces with the NHL Foundation to launch a $100,000 Empowerment Grant for Girls Hockey Initiative, a program designed to broaden access for young female athletes across the region.
The initiative earmarks $50,000 for the Suburban Hockey Foundation in Michigan, where the funds will be used to offset registration fees, equipment costs and travel expenses for girls who might otherwise be priced out of the sport. Suburban Hockey Foundation chief executive Tom Anastos, who has known Keller since her early days on the ice, will administer the grant, with applications open until September 11 and awardees to be announced in October.
