The River Falls baseball team saw its season end on a chilly evening in Grand Chute, Wisconsin, as the Bulldogs fell 4-1 to Kaukana in the Wisconsin Division I high school state quarterfinals.
River Falls struck first in the top of the third inning when Chase Rudolph lined a double that set the stage for an early lead, but the Bulldogs could not capitalize further.
Kaukana’s breakthrough came in the bottom of the fifth, where two fielding miscues by River Falls opened the door for a decisive rally, capped by a double from Brayden Jenkins that shifted momentum.
The sixth inning added insurance for Kaukana as Blake Vandeloo and Bron Schaefer delivered timely hits, extending the lead and forcing River Falls to play catch‑up.
On the mound, Ethan Jeffers delivered a complete‑game effort for River Falls, striking out four batters and allowing only two earned runs, but the offense could not generate more runs.
Despite out‑hitting Kaukana 5‑6, River Falls never put a leadoff runner on base, a pattern that ultimately limited their scoring opportunities.
Looking ahead
Kaukana now moves on to the semifinals, where they will face a new set of challenges, while River Falls will look to rebuild around a core that includes Rudolph, Jeffers and the emerging talents of Jenkins, Vandeloo and Schaefer.
