Robyn Murray is back on the sidelines of the University at Albany field hockey program, this time in a coaching capacity.
Head coach Phil Sykes welcomed the news, emphasizing how Murray’s deep connection to the program and her championship background will elevate the team’s standards.
A Championship Legacy Rekindled
Murray’s playing career at Albany included a key role on the 2022 squad that captured the America East title and upset fourth‑seeded Michigan in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament, a run that culminated in the program’s first Elite‑8 appearance.
After completing a master’s degree in sports administration at Central Michigan, where she served as a graduate assistant for a year and a half, Murray turned her attention to developing her coaching craft at the Texas Pride Field Hockey Club.
At Texas Pride she guided U‑14 Blue, U‑16 White and U‑19 squads to national recognition, securing gold medals with the younger teams and advancing all three travel squads to the National Club Championships.
Murray, a native of Enniskerry, Ireland, graduated from Albany in December 2022 with a sociology major and a business minor, and she returns with a clear sense of purpose.
She expressed excitement about the opportunity, stating that returning to the team she once represented as a defender feels like a full‑circle moment.
Her blend of high‑level playing experience, academic preparation, and diverse coaching background positions her to contribute immediately to the program’s growth.
