A Homecoming in Gainesville
The lights dimmed at Eastside High as the school gathered to retire the jersey of one of its most celebrated alumni, Anthony Richardson Sr., a standout who once dazzled the city with his dual‑threat brilliance. The ceremony brought together former teammates, coaches and a crowd of local fans eager to celebrate a career that began on these very fields.
During his sophomore and junior years Richardson led Eastside to back‑to‑back city and district titles, a period that cemented his reputation as a hometown hero and set the stage for a highly anticipated NFL trajectory.
Now in the final year of a four‑year, $33.9 million contract with the Indianapolis Colts, Richardson has compiled 2,400 passing yards, 11 touchdowns and 13 interceptions across 17 appearances. A 2025 orbital bone fracture ended his campaign early, but the quarterback remains focused on a full recovery.
Preparing for a 2026 Return
Working with Jacksonville‑based quarterback coaches Denny Thomspon and Will Hewlett, Richardson is fine‑tuning his mechanics and studying playbooks in preparation for the 2026 season, a year he hopes will showcase a healthier, more polished version of himself.
Beyond the gridiron, Richardson has returned to Gainesville to run youth football camps and support local charities, a move that underscores his desire to give back to the community that helped shape his career.
