A Summer Camp at Duke
The 7‑on‑7 summer camp, held at Duke University’s Wallace Wade Stadium, brought together high school programs from North Carolina, Virginia and South Carolina. Over a dozen teams converged on the historic venue, using the familiar college setting to test their skills in a fast‑paced, non‑tackle format.
Among the participants were traditional powerhouses such as Charlotte Country Day, as well as regional squads like Cleveland and Palisades. The competition was marked by tight contests, with Virginia‑based teams emerging as semifinal victors.
Semifinals and the Final
Cleveland and Palisades reached the semifinals but fell to Virginia programs, while Huguenot edged Palisades 21‑20 in a close semifinal. Dr. Henry A. Wise Jr. High School then defeated Cleveland 16‑12 to set up a showdown with Huguenot.
In the championship game, Wise Jr. pulled away in the second half, securing a 25‑15 win that capped a memorable tournament and highlighted the growing competitiveness of the regional 7‑on‑7 scene.
Looking Ahead
The event underscored the value of summer camps in fostering interstate rivalry and gave teams a preview of the upcoming season. Organizers hope the format will continue to expand, offering more opportunities for young athletes across the Southeast.
