A New Chapter for South Carolina Basketball
South Carolina’s men’s basketball program has officially confirmed the addition of Juan Fernandez, a 6‑11 forward whose professional résumé spans top‑flight basketball in Spain and international competition for Argentina.
Head coach Lamont Paris praised the newcomer, describing Fernandez as a player with a “tremendous feel for the game” who can stretch the floor, create shots for teammates and finish at the rim.
International Pedigree Meets SEC Intensity
Fernandez spent the last five seasons competing in Spain’s ACB league with Basquet Girona, where he averaged 7.7 points and 4.4 rebounds in 19.4 minutes per game while shooting 48.2 % from the field.
His international résumé includes four years on the senior Argentine national team, highlighted by a silver‑medal performance at the AmeriCup, where he posted 13.7 points and 6.0 rebounds per game and shot 53.4 % from the field.
Coach Paris emphasized that Fernandez’s versatility should translate well to the SEC’s physical style, noting that his playmaking instincts and shooting efficiency could open new offensive looks for the Gamecocks.
The signing marks the seventh new player added to the roster this semester, underscoring the program’s aggressive recruitment push as it looks to build depth and competitiveness for the upcoming campaign.
