Adrian Rodriguez etched his name into College World Series history on Saturday, becoming only the third player ever to hit for the cycle on the sport’s biggest stage. The sophomore went 5-for-5 at the plate, driving in seven runs and launching a two-run home run that capped a perfect offensive day.
A Cycle That Changed the Game
His performance included a two-RBI double, a two-RBI triple, and a two-run homer, turning a tightly contested matchup into a 14-2 rout over the Alabama Crimson Tide. The Longhorns erupted for 13 hits, with multiple big scoring frames that pulled them away from early pressure.
Head coach Jim Schlossnagle praised Rodriguez’s resilience, noting how the hitter’s hot streak had carried the team through a challenging season and kept Texas alive in the tournament. “He’s been one of the hottest bats in our lineup since the NCAA Tournament,” Schlossnagle said.
The victory sets up a pivotal showdown later this week, as the Longhorns will face the loser of the Georgia Bulldogs and the Oklahoma Sooners on Tuesday at 7 p.m. CT, a game that will be streamed live on ESPN.
