Todd Schaefer, a 29‑year coaching veteran, has been added to the Ohio State women's basketball staff as an assistant coach, bringing a wealth of experience to the program.
His career spans stints at Missouri, Arkansas, Ole Miss, Washington, Arkansas State, Greenbrier High School, Cincinnati, Arkansas Tech, Christian Brothers University, Western Illinois, and Allen County Community College, where he built a reputation as a developer of talent.
A distinguished career
During his eight‑year tenure at Arkansas he helped guide the Razorbacks to back‑to‑back NCAA Tournament appearances and five straight postseason berths, while coaching five All‑American honorees and a freshman of the year.
What this means for Ohio State
Head coach Kevin McGuff praised Schaefer’s credibility, experience and character, saying the hire strengthens the Buckeyes’ staff ahead of the upcoming season.
Schaefer’s impact is already evident in the program’s trajectory; he previously led the Golden Suns at Arkansas Tech to a road victory over the top‑ranked Division II team and helped develop Chelsea Dungee, the fifth‑overall pick in the 2021 WNBA draft.
Beyond the bench, Schaefer holds a Bachelor of Arts in English from Thomas More College, earned in 1995, and lives in Columbus with his wife Lisa and their three sons, Landon, Will and Jake.
A new era begins
His arrival signals a fresh chapter for Ohio State, where his proven ability to elevate player performance and foster conference success is expected to translate into continued growth for the Buckeyes.
