A Homecoming for the Wildcats
Jacob Long, a 1993 alumnus of Trigg County High School and former Wildcat player, has returned to his hometown to take the reins of the school's baseball program as head coach. After several years serving as an assistant at Lyon County, Long brings both playing experience and a deep familiarity with the regional baseball culture.
Long's appointment comes at a time when the Wildcats have faced recent challenges, including a 28‑47 record over the last three seasons under Will Alexander, who has now stepped into the role of assistant athletic director. The program once enjoyed a six‑district‑title run in eight years during the 2010s, a legacy Long hopes to rebuild upon.
His vision centers on strengthening youth and feeder programs, forging partnerships with local recreation leagues, and cultivating a culture of accountability and hard work. Long plans to assemble a competitive coaching staff, support players in developing a winning mindset, and ultimately aim for the final game of the season as a measure of progress.
Beyond the field, Long is eager to reconnect the baseball program with the broader community, emphasizing the importance of building strong support systems and fostering collaboration among coaches throughout the program. He believes the current roster holds untapped talent that can drive renewed enthusiasm for the sport.
