A Strategic Need
Indiana University’s men’s basketball program has extended an official scholarship offer to Xavier Young, a 6‑foot‑10 center from Oak Cliff Faith Family Academy in Dallas, for the Class of 2028.
The Hoosiers join a growing list of power‑conference suitors, including Alabama, Georgia, Baylor and Arizona State, all of which have been tracking Young’s development since his breakout sophomore season.
Ranked as the sixth‑best prospect among centers nationwide by 247Sports and placed 12th overall, Young also holds a 4‑star rating from On3 and Rivals, where he is positioned fifth among centers, fifteenth overall and third in Texas.
Indiana’s recent history reflects a deliberate push to replenish its frontcourt, a need underscored by the last true center signed out of high school, Logan Duncomb, who arrived in 2021. The current staff, led by head coach Mike Woodson, sees Young as a potential cornerstone for the next era.
The recruitment underscores a broader trend in college basketball where elite big men are coveted by multiple programs, and the competition for Young is expected to intensify as he narrows his list in the coming months.
