Graduate assistant brings Louisville pedigree and a track record of rapid program turnarounds

A Louisville Native Returns to the Bluegrass

Zack Sims has officially joined Bellarmine University's women's basketball coaching staff as a graduate assistant, bringing with him a deep connection to the city and a résumé that includes managing both the men's and women's programs at the University of Louisville.

During his tenure at Louisville, Sims oversaw a dramatic turnaround of the men's team, guiding them from an 8‑24 record to a 27‑8 season and securing the program's first ACC Tournament semifinal appearance. He also directed the women's squad to a 29‑8 record and a Sweet 16 berth in the NCAA Tournament.

Sims holds a bachelor's degree in sports administration from Louisville and was a four‑time Dean's Scholar, having excelled at Floyd Central High School where he helped capture three Hoosier Hills Conference titles and two sectional championships.

Expressing gratitude for the opportunity, Sims said he is eager to contribute to Bellarmine's emerging culture and to foster strong relationships within the team and the broader community.

Looking Ahead

Under the guidance of head coach Jeff Walz and alongside fellow assistants such as Pat Kelsey, Sims will work to translate his proven developmental strategies into continued success for the Cardinals.

Monique Reid, a key figure in the program, welcomed Sims' arrival, emphasizing the collective ambition to build on recent achievements.
