Bryan Holaday Returns to TCU as Bench Coach

The Horned Frogs welcome back a 2010 College World Series hero to the coaching staff under Kirk Saarloos

TCU head coach Kirk Saarloos announced this week that former Horned Frog star Bryan Holaday will join the coaching staff as a bench coach, focusing on the team's catchers.

A Storied Playing Legacy

Holaday, a 2010 Johnny Bench Award winner, was a cornerstone of the 2010 TCU squad that captured the program's first College World Series appearance. His collegiate career, which spanned 187 games over three seasons, featured a .325 batting average, 228 hits and 28 home runs.

After being drafted by the Detroit Tigers, Holaday embarked on a 10‑year Major League Baseball journey that took him to six clubs, including the Texas Rangers, Boston Red Sox, Miami Marlins, Baltimore Orioles and Arizona Diamondbacks. In the big leagues he compiled a .993 fielding percentage, threw out 53 baserunners and recorded 173 hits with 35 doubles.

Beyond the majors, Holaday remained deeply connected to the game, coaching select teams, running youth clinics and even dabbling in radio broadcasting for MLB contests. His contributions were recognized in 2022 when he was inducted into the TCU Block T Hall of Fame.

In his new role, Holaday will work directly with the catchers, helping to shape defensive strategy and develop the next generation of talent at TCU. The move underscores the program's commitment to blending alumni expertise with fresh coaching perspectives.
