Pitt Panthers men's basketball announced the addition of Armani Mighty, a 6‑foot‑10, 240‑pound center from Toronto, for the upcoming 2026‑27 season. The transfer brings a blend of size, shot‑blocking ability and rebounding pedigree to a frontcourt that has been seeking a dominant interior presence.
During his lone season at Mercer, Mighty earned Co‑Defensive Player of the Year and Second Team All‑SoCon honors while leading the Southern Conference in blocks per game and field‑goal percentage. He posted a program‑record 25 rebounds in a single contest against VMI and finished the year averaging 13.2 points and 10.6 rebounds per game.
Mighty’s collegiate journey began at Boston College, where he appeared in 51 games over two seasons before moving to Central Michigan, where a medical redshirt delayed his breakout. At Central Michigan he refined his footwork and expanded his offensive repertoire, setting the stage for his recent breakout at Mercer.
Recruited as a four‑star prospect out of United Scholastic Academy, Mighty also earned All‑Ontario recognition and competed in the 2022 BioSteel All‑Canadian Game, highlighting his status as one of Canada’s top prospects.
Defensive Anchor and Rebounding Force
Coach Jeff Capel highlighted Mighty’s defensive skill set, noting that his timing and length make him a natural rim protector. “We expect him to anchor our defense and alter shots in ways that open up opportunities on the offensive end,” Capel said.
Beyond statistics, Mighty’s work ethic and willingness to embrace a complementary role have impressed teammates. “He brings a quiet confidence that elevates everyone around him,” said a senior guard who requested anonymity.
A Toronto Connection
The Panthers will pair Mighty with point guard Naithan George, another Toronto native who transferred to Pitt earlier this year. Together they represent a growing Canadian contingent that could reshape the team’s identity and fan engagement.
The addition of Mighty also signals Pitt’s strategy to bolster recruiting pipelines in Canada, a region that has produced several recent standouts for the program.
