Austin “Bo” Waggoner has officially joined the Navy men’s basketball program as an assistant coach, a move that underscores the Midshipmen’s commitment to assembling a staff built around proven winning experience.
A Proven Builder of Winning Programs
During his tenure at Notre Dame, where he served as director of operations, Waggoner helped shape a culture that emphasized player development and strategic growth. His earlier stints with the Minnesota Timberwolves and Penn State further honed his ability to translate analytical insight into on‑court success.
Head coach Jon Perry praised the new addition, noting that Waggoner’s reputation for constructing championship‑caliber systems aligns perfectly with the Academy’s tradition of excellence.
Waggoner expressed gratitude for the opportunity, emphasizing the program’s storied history and the broader purpose that draws many to serve in Annapolis.
Beyond his professional résumé, Waggoner’s roots in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, and his academic background — a Bachelor of Science in finance and a Master of Education — reflect a blend of analytical rigor and educational commitment.
His coaching journey includes a season as an assistant at Wilkes University, where the team posted a 13‑12 record, and a recent role as a video associate with the NBA’s Minnesota Timberwolves, experiences that have prepared him for the unique demands of military‑academy basketball.
