The 2027 Capital District Mayor's Cup will make its return to Glens Falls on January 23, 2027, with both the women's and men's contests scheduled at the Harding Mazzotti Arena.
A Milestone for Women's Hockey
This will mark the first time the Union and RPI women's programs meet in the city, while the men's rivalry has a storied past at the venue, having been held there in 1998 and 1999 under the name Glens Falls Civic Center.
Tickets for the double‑header will become available to the public on July 1, with sales handled through the arena's box office and its online platform.
Jeff Mead, President of the Adirondack Thunder, expressed enthusiasm about the event, saying the organization is excited to host the games and welcome both Union and RPI to a market that lives and breathes hockey.
Jim McLaughlin, Union's Director of Athletics, highlighted the electric atmosphere that fans can expect inside Harding Mazzotti Arena, noting the venue's reputation for producing memorable moments.
Dr. Kristie Bowers, RPI's Director of Athletics, added that the partnership with the Adirondack Thunder offers a unique opportunity to grow the sport in the region and showcase the passion of its fan base.
The schedule calls for a 3 p.m. puck drop for the women's game, followed by the men's matchup at 6 p.m., creating a back‑to‑back showcase of top‑level college hockey.
Historically, Union has dominated the men's series, holding the last five Mayor's Cup titles, while the women's side has seen Union claim the most recent two championships.
Looking ahead, the event will return to MVP Arena in downtown Albany for the 2028 edition, ensuring the tradition continues to rotate across the Capital District.
