Luke Neiswonger, a right‑handed pitcher who spent his freshman year at Central Michigan, has officially committed to the University of Arkansas baseball program, joining the Razorbacks for the upcoming season.
The transfer portal addition marks the fifth pitcher to sign with Arkansas this offseason, underscoring the program’s aggressive rebuilding of its pitching staff through graduate transfers.
A Strategic Boost for Arkansas
Neiswonger’s 2026 campaign was cut short by injury, but his debut season showcased a 2‑1 record, a 5.34 ERA and 47 strikeouts over 32 innings, while walking only ten batters.
Scouts praised the versatility of his four‑pitch mix — fastball, cutter, changeup and slider — and his breaking ball stood out in a standout performance against Louisville on February 28, where he fanned eight and yielded four earned runs in five and two‑thirds innings.
Coaches expect him to battle for a spot in the weekend rotation, a role that could be pivotal as the team replaces departed veterans Hunter Dietz and Gabe Gaeckle, while returning arm Cole Gibler is slated for an undefined role.
Other portal acquisitions such as Brayden Krenzel, Ridge Harvey, Micah Henson and Lance Alexander have also signed, though the latter three are projected more as relievers despite having started games in 2026.
