Vanderbilt Commodores Gear Up for a Promising New Season

Head coach Clark Lea taps experience and newcomer Ja'Cory Thomas to build on last year's 10‑3 run

A New Era Under Coach Lea

Vanderbilt football is stepping into a new chapter as head coach Clark Lea prepares the Commodores for another campaign after a 10‑3 season that ended with high expectations. Lea stresses that the team’s depth and experience across every level give him confidence in a strong start.

Although the roster will lose star quarterback Diego Pavia and tight end Eli Stowers, Lea points out that Vanderbilt remains among the most experienced teams in the country, ranking 34th on offense and fourth on defense, and holds the second spot in overall game experience. Offensive coordinator Tim Beck echoes the sentiment, noting the best quality depth he has seen at the program.

The Commodores also welcome transfer Ja'Cory Thomas, a standout receiver from Old Dominion University, who arrives with a track record of 41 catches for 719 yards and five touchdowns in 2025. Thomas is expected to be the second‑most talented receiver on the squad and to help make the offense more dynamic.

Thomas, known for his physicality and route‑running skills, had an up‑and‑down spring but impressed in the recent Spring Game. He says he aims to improve his hands, physicality and become a true route runner who can be both physical and finesse. With an important camp ahead, Thomas believes his development could be the catalyst that turns Vanderbilt’s offense from competent to explosive.
