New commitments reshape the Orange’s recruiting outlook
Syracuse University announced Tuesday that wide receiver/safety Josh Barr from Irondequoit and safety Matthew Schlenhardt from Park Ridge, Illinois, have both committed to the Orange for the 2027 cycle. Their pledges come as the program continues to build momentum ahead of the next recruiting class.
Barr, a three‑star recruit, chose Syracuse over a handful of other programs including Arkansas, Buffalo and Rhode Island. He is currently listed as the tenth‑best prospect in New York by 247Sports, underscoring the local impact of his decision.
Schlenhardt, also a three‑star prospect, played linebacker in the previous season before transitioning to safety. He earned his first FBS scholarship offer from Syracuse during a June camp and cited the coaching staff’s vision as a key factor in his commitment.
The two additions have nudged the Orange’s 2027 class to No. 39 in the 247Sports composite and to No. 47 on the On3 rankings, reflecting a steady climb that could position Syracuse favorably in the national recruiting landscape.
