A Five-Star Commitment
Abraham Sesay, a five-star prospect and the sixth-ranked edge rusher in the 2027 class, announced his verbal pledge to the University of Notre Dame on Tuesday, ending a recruitment that had drawn interest from more than three dozen programs.
During his junior season at St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Pennsylvania, Sesay recorded 80 tackles and 13 sacks, earning first-team all-state honors at defensive end and helping his team to a dominant defensive campaign.
A Recruit with a Proven Track Record
The Irish coaching staff drew a direct comparison between Sesay and former Alabama quarterback Bryce Young, citing his pass-rushing prowess and leadership qualities. The offer sheet that accompanied his recruitment included powerhouses such as Ohio State, Miami, USC, Oregon, Michigan and Georgia.
Choosing the Irish Over a Crowded Field
Sesay said the blend of rigorous academics and a proven pathway to the NFL, championed by head coach Marcus Freeman, was the decisive factor in his choice. He noted that Notre Dame’s emphasis on education alongside football development matched his long-term goals.
What This Means for Notre Dame’s 2027 Class
His commitment bumps the Fighting Irish’s 2027 recruiting class to 18 verbal pledges, cementing the group as one of the most highly rated in the nation. He becomes the second five-star defensive-line recruit in the cycle, following a trend that has recruiting analysts optimistic about the program’s trajectory.
