Tad Powers, a former minor leaguer and longtime MLB coach, has turned his lifelong love of baseball into a summer tradition at his Sandlot Baseball Camp in New Smyrna Beach, Florida.
A Lifetime in the Game
Powers spent the late 1980s and early 1990s navigating the grind of minor league baseball before transitioning to scouting and coaching roles that brought him into the major league spotlight.
This week the camp is in full swing, with drills, batting practice and mentorship sessions designed to teach not just technique but the intangible qualities of teamwork and respect for the game.
For the youngsters who gather on the sand‑covered diamonds, Powers’ blend of technical instruction and personal storytelling creates an atmosphere where the love of baseball feels as natural as the Florida breeze.
