The City of Lynnwood Arts Commission has turned the city’s rec center into a vibrant gallery, showcasing seventeen soccer balls that have been transformed into canvases by local artists. Each ball reflects a distinct vision, from abstract patterns to detailed portraits, celebrating the global spirit of the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup while highlighting homegrown talent.
Art Meets the Beautiful Game
The exhibition is open to the public at no cost and will remain on display until July 19, 2026. Its timing aligns perfectly with the worldwide excitement surrounding the World Cup, offering residents a chance to engage with both sport and visual art in a single, accessible venue.
Funding for the project comes in part from a grant provided by the Economic Alliance Snohomish County, underscoring the region’s commitment to supporting cultural initiatives that resonate with the community. The artwork will later be offered in an online auction hosted at www.32auctions.com/SoccerBalls.
All proceeds from the auction are earmarked for the Lynnwood Food Bank, channeling the creative energy of the exhibition into tangible support for local families in need. Bidding will remain open through July 28, the same day a special artist reception is scheduled at Lynnwood City Hall.
The reception, running from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., will give visitors an opportunity to meet the creators behind the painted balls, learn about their processes, and celebrate the intersection of sport, art, and community service. The auction will close at the conclusion of the event, ensuring that every bid contributes directly to the food bank’s mission.
Beyond the visual appeal, the exhibition serves as a reminder of how public spaces can become hubs for cultural exchange and charitable action. Residents are encouraged to visit the rec center, experience the diverse artwork, and consider participating in the upcoming auction, thereby helping to weave art, sport, and community support into a shared narrative.
