A Fresh Coaching Direction
Northeast announced on June 16, 2026 that Eric Young has been named its new boys basketball coach, taking over from Wayne Brimley whose three‑year stint ended with a 7‑67 record.
Young’s basketball journey began at Austin Peay, where he played three seasons from 2003 to 2005, and continued professionally in Scotland, gaining experience on an international stage.
His coaching career includes a head‑coaching role at Northeast Middle School, assistant positions under John Stigall and Sam Young, and a period during which the Eagles captured four straight district tournament titles from 2018 through 2021.
Sam Young’s final season in 2023 produced a 14‑12 record, a high point that Young hopes to build upon as he seeks to restore confidence and competitiveness to the program.
In his introductory remarks, Young emphasized a focus on discipline, unity and a renewed work ethic, aiming to turn the page on recent struggles and position Northeast as a contender in the regional league.
