On a warm June evening the Hickman County High School Bulldogs traveled to Perry County High School to take part in a 7‑on‑7 passing drill that brought together three local rivals: the Perry County Vikings, the Scotts Hill Lions and the Summertown Eagles.
Senior quarterback Brayden McCaleb used the night to build chemistry with his skill position players, connecting on touchdown passes to wide receiver Aiden Spigelmyre and slotback Andy Craft. The quick connections helped the Bulldogs stay ahead early in each contest.
A Night of Growth
The Bulldogs’ defense also made its mark, forcing two takeaways against Scotts Hill and delivering multiple coverage sacks that prevented a potential go‑ahead score with a last‑second effort. Against Summertown the unit yielded just one touchdown while holding the Eagles to a single score.
The final matchup saw the Bulldogs outscore Perry County 4‑1, with McCaleb throwing four touchdowns — three of them to Spigelmyre — to cap a night of offensive fireworks. Coach Pat Smith praised the team’s progress, noting that the passing game clicked and the defensive mechanics showed marked improvement with each game.
Smith’s comments underscored a broader theme: the Bulldogs are peaking at the right time, using the 7‑on‑7 environment to fine‑tune timing, spacing and communication before the full‑season schedule begins.
