Four senior varsity football players from William Floyd High School have earned spots in the National Football Foundation’s All-Star Classic, a showcase that pits the top talent from Suffolk and Nassau counties against the best of New York City on June 17 at Hofstra University’s James M. Shuart Stadium.
Rising Stars Ready for the Spotlight
Among the selected athletes, running back Ja’Quan Thomas stands out for his record‑breaking production, having amassed nearly 5,000 rushing yards and 72 touchdowns during his high school career.
His performances earned him the prestigious Gregg Sarra Trophy and the Hansen Award, underscoring his status as one of Long Island’s most electrifying players.
The accolades extend beyond Thomas. Matthew Benjamin, Jeru Hall and Joseph Melecio were lauded as the county’s most dominant offensive line, a unit that helped shape a season marked by division‑one recognition and All‑County honors.
Hall’s individual excellence was further highlighted when he reached the final round for the Gregg Sarra Trophy, while all three earned All-Division second‑team and All‑County distinctions in 2024 and 2025.
Looking ahead, Thomas, Jeru Hall and Joseph Melecio will continue their football journeys with the Cortland Red Dragons, while Benjamin has committed to the Long Island University Sharks on a scholarship.
