Assemblywoman Honors Woodland Christian Girls Basketball Team at Capitol

Celebrating a Historic Undefeated Season and State Championship

Capitol Celebration

Assemblywoman Cecilia Aguiar-Curry took the rostrum in the historic halls of the State Capitol this week to present a special commendation to the Woodland Christian girls basketball squad, celebrating their recent CIF Division V state championship.

A Season of Dominance

The Cardinals capped a remarkable campaign with a 63-30 victory over Laguna Hills on March 13, securing the program’s first undefeated Sierra Delta League title and a second straight state crown, a feat that has etched their names into California high school sports lore.

Their path to the championship was a masterclass in consistency, as they dismantled opponents with scores of 69-43 over Oakland, 37-35 against Palma, 56-46 versus John Adams Academy and a 46-36 win against Modoc, culminating in a perfect 33-0 record that stands as a program record.

Among the standout performers are Annabell Baker, Ellie Sumner, Sofia Sorbello, Kylee Bihlman, Kellie McNichols, Kiley Ibarra, Kinsy Rainwater, Isabel Du, Siena Sorbello, Bailee Broward and Annaliese Van Mouwerik, who together forged a dynamic roster complemented by a dedicated coaching staff featuring Trisha Hayes, Rebecca Williams, Samantha Sorbello, Megan Kritscher, head coach Shiloh Sorbello and Isaac Rainwater.

The recognition at the Capitol not only honors the athletes’ on-court excellence but also underscores the growing prominence of Yolo County basketball, a source of pride for the community and a beacon for future generations of players.
