A Community Initiative
Jamelle Juneau, a former professional football player, has returned to his roots in Avoyelles Parish, Louisiana, to launch The Dream League, a structured flag‑football program aimed at giving local children a safe and organized environment to learn the game.
Founded in 2021, the league welcomes boys and girls between the ages of four and fifteen, teaching them not only the fundamentals of flag football but also the values of teamwork and discipline. Since its inception, the initiative has already opened doors for fifteen participants who have earned scholarships to play at the collegiate level in football, basketball and track.
Scholarships and Success Stories
Okie Benjamin, who serves as Director of Gameday Operations for the program, has observed firsthand how the league is reshaping community dynamics, providing mentorship and a positive outlet for youth who might otherwise lack such opportunities.
One standout participant, Devin Lavalais from Marksville, recently committed to Tulane University, where he will continue his football career. Lavalais attributes his growth on and off the field to the leadership and teamwork skills he honed while playing in The Dream League.
Looking Ahead
Juneau remains optimistic that the best achievements of The Dream League are still on the horizon, envisioning expanded outreach and deeper partnerships that will continue to uplift the next generation of athletes.
Registration for the 2026 season is currently open, with a deadline of July 14 and a participation fee of $110. Parents interested in enrolling their children can sign up through the program’s official channels.
