The Maine Regional High School Baseball and Softball playoffs unfolded on Tuesday, June 16, showcasing a full slate of contests that determined which squads would advance to the state championships scheduled for Saturday.
Regional Highlights by Class and Sport
In the northern part of the state, Class A baseball saw Bangor edge out Oxford Hills 5-2, while Cony edged Hermon 4-2 in Class B and Washington Academy shut out Mattanawcook Academy 4-0 in Class C. Fort Fairfield completed the northern sweep with a 2-1 victory over Bangor Christian in Class D. Down south, Gorham powered past Noble 7-2 in Class A, Fryeburg Academy edged Greely 4-3 in Class B, Monmouth Academy routed Maranacook 12-1 in Class C, and Telstar downed Richmond 12-1 in Class D.
The softball bracket mirrored the baseball action, with Hampden Academy topping Lewiston 1-0 in the northern Class A matchup, Cheverus overwhelming Bonny Eagle 5-0 in the southern Class A game, Gardiner slipping past Old Town 4-3 in Class B, and Medomak Valley beating Lake Region 5-0 in Class B. Bucksport posted an 11-3 win over Central in northern Class C, while Dirigo edged Monmouth Academy 3-2 in southern Class C. Penobscot Valley defeated Katahdin 5-2 in northern Class D, and NYA closed out the southern Class D slate with a 5-0 triumph over Buckfield.
State Finals Await
All of the victorious teams now turn their focus to Saturday’s State Finals, where the champions from each region will compete for the ultimate titles. The tournament has underscored the depth of talent across Maine’s high school programs, and fans can expect a lively set of championship games as the season’s final chapter unfolds.
