Three Mountaineers Earn CSC Academic All‑District Honors

Excellence in the classroom and on the field highlights Appalachian State’s field hockey standouts

Appalachian State University announced that senior forward Claire Grenis, senior defender Sarah Perkins and junior midfielder Calista Schwartz have been selected to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All‑District team, a distinction that celebrates the conference’s top scholars among field hockey players.

The CSC award requires recipients to be at least sophomores, maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher, and participate in at least 90 percent of their team’s games or start in 66 percent of them. Meeting those standards, the three Mountaineers exemplify the blend of athletic commitment and scholarly rigor that the organization seeks to highlight.

Standout Performances

Claire Grenis capped her collegiate career with a 3.9 GPA and a master’s degree in geography. Between the posts she recorded four shutouts, ranked fourth nationally in goals‑against average and amassed 79 saves, underscoring her reliability between the pipes.

Sarah Perkins, also a team captain, contributed a goal and three assists from the defensive line while graduating with a biology degree and a 3.89 GPA. Her impact helped the Mountaineers secure their first postseason victory in program history, a 2025 MAC tournament win over Ohio under head coach Emily Dinsmore.

Junior midfielder Calista Schwartz tallied three assists, including two during a three‑game stretch, and earned dean’s‑list and chancellor’s‑list honors for the 2025‑26 academic year with a 3.85 GPA. She also represented the program internationally at the FIH Junior World Cup, sharing the roster with newcomer Riley Novak.

Their recognitions reflect a broader culture at Appalachian State where athletic competition and academic achievement are pursued in tandem. The university’s athletic department, in partnership with the College Sports Communicators, continues to celebrate student‑athletes who excel in both arenas.
